Build a Word

Saturday, July 31, 2010

We love it when we are on 'Build a Word' for reading groups because we get to play with Play-doh!

This is a great hands-on way to learn our sight words!

3D Shapes

Last week we spent time revising 3D shapes, among other things.

We love to play 3D shape snap, but we only get the snap if we can say the name of the shape!

Acrostic Poems

We will be learning about poetry this term.  One of our first attempts was to create an acrostic poem using our name.  Check each students page for their effort.

Planet Rhythm

Friday, July 23, 2010

Planet Rhythm has been again postponed to later in the year.

2D shape rotations

We were revising our learning about 2D shapes on Thursday.  Our focus was knowing the 2D shape names and their properties - how many sides, how many corners? Here are a couple of the activities we did.

Some of the students tried tangrams for the first time and loved the challenge.

Show and Tell

Wednesday, July 21, 2010

Students have been doing a fabulous job in show and tell already this term. Have a look at the 'Show and Tell' page to see some pics!

Gindaja Performance

We thoroughly enjoyed the "Gindaja" performance presented by Sean Dewar this morning. He shared many different aspects of his culture - food, hunting and speech to name a few.  We loved how entertaining and funny he was.  Some of us even got to go on stage and dance.

Disco

Junior Disco is tonight at 5:30pm in the undercover area.

See you there!

Marvin wanted MORE!

Friday, July 16, 2010

Today we had our fruit break outside on the grass.  We read this story called "Marvin wanted MORE!".

This story was about a sheep who wanted to be bigger.  Marvin the sheep wanted to be taller and faster than the other sheep.  He started eating and he got much bigger.  Marvin became faster and taller than other sheep.  His friend said that he should stop but he couldn't - he just kept on eating.  Marvin ended up eating everything around him - he ate the whole world!  He became very lonely... and then he felt really ill.  He was sick, and he threw up everything he had eaten.  The only problem was, things were different....

Check each student's page to see what they thought might be different in the world after Marvin had been sick.

Coming Up

Thursday, July 15, 2010

Notes went home today regarding "Gindaja" performance.  Students need to take $2.00 to the cash window by next Wednesday (21/7).

Also, don't forget the disco is on Wednesday night (21/7) at 5:30pm.

Holiday Activities

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

We discussed our favourite holiday activities today and made a tally board.  1C then made a picture graph using the data we had collected.  Looks like Wet n Wild is a clear favourite!

First day back

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

We had a great first day back today.  1C got straight into it this morning with phonics first up followed by reading groups.  After brain break we had a discussion on proper nouns and what they are.  We then looked for them in a text.  Next we talked about our holidays and then wrote a recount.  You can find these under each child's page.

In our middle session we did three maths rotations.  Here are a couple of the activities:
