Lapathon

Sunday, March 29, 2015

Just a reminder that our lapathon is on this Tuesday. Please support your child in seeking sponsorship for this great fundraiser for our school.

Black Button for Anzac Poppy

Every student will be making a poppy ready for Anzac Day next term. Each student will need a black button to attach to the middle of their poppy. Please send a black button to school with your child as soon as possible. If you have any extras that would be fabulous!

Star of the Week

Congratulations to Levi who is the 4F Star of the Week for Week 9. Levi has been working very hard to achieve his Maths goals.

Poetry

Students in 4F have been analysing poetry and will be presenting their chosen poem to the class this week. Please remind your child to practice their poem on the weekend so they are well prepared. Thanks for your support!

Twitter

Thursday, March 26, 2015

Check out our school Twitter feed now on the blog. This is Mrs King's personal Twitter account so you can be assured that this will be the most up to date information for what's happening at Banksia.

Art

Wednesday, March 25, 2015

Here are some of our first attempts at creating artwork using textures within the paint. I'm loving them! If you look closely you will see the texture within the pieces they have torn up.

Poetry

This week we have chosen poems and begun to analyse them in preparation for our oral assessments next week. Students will need to read their chosen poem aloud to the class as well as their analysis.

Ask them what they can tell you about the structure and poetic language devices in these poems. You might be surprised at what they know!

Swimming Carnival

Tuesday, March 24, 2015

What a day! We were so blessed with beautiful weather. I could not have been prouder of our kids today - those who raced in the A events and those who participated in events to have fun and gain points for their house. Thank you to the parents that came (I know it's not always possible), and to Bailey's Dad who absolutely smashed it in the parent relay. Presentations will be made at assembly next week.

Sunday, March 22, 2015

We will be heading to the library tomorrow to check out book week and create our wish list. The book fair is running from Monday to Thursday this week and is open from 8:30am to 3:30pm each day.

Week 9 Star of the Week

A big congratulations to Elle who is the 4F Star of the Week.  Elle has an excellent attitude towards learning and is producing some fantastic work in both English and Maths. Elle even waited back after school on Friday to thank me for choosing her - fantastic manners as well!

Design and Technology

Wednesday, March 18, 2015

As part of our Technology lesson we examined different materials and discussed their suitability for use in designing a sports shirt.

Neologisms in Poetry

We have been discussing poetic language devices in English, one of which is neologisms. Here's a little clip to give you a short run down on what they are if you've never heard of them before.

Students raise 5 times more with online fundraising

It is super easy to set up an online fundraising page which will allow you to share amongst family and friends on Facebook and Twitter. Click on the picture to link directly to the fundraising page where kids can select their prize (which becomes their goal).

Measurement

Today our Math focus lesson and rotations revolved around length. We discussed personal referents. 4F discovered that often our little finger is about 1cm wide so is a suitable personal referent when estimating in centimetres. When estimating in metres we used our strides and stepped it out. There was lots of hands on estimating and measuring today!
