A very busy Friday

Saturday, October 30, 2010

Friday was a very busy day!  With Mrs Kings very special parade in the morning (25 years of service) and swimming straight after that, we didn't sit down at our desks until 12:30pm!  We were very productive though and managed to create some fantastic posters following on from our Australian animal information reports.

Teeth

Friday, October 29, 2010

We had a very exciting day yesterday.  Taliyah lost a tooth and then Charlize lost 2 within a matter of minutes!  We were all very excited as that has never happened before in our class.

Growing Patterns

Friday, October 22, 2010

Yesterday we looked at growing patterns in three different contexts.  In teacher time we created growing patterns using letters and cones.  We then looped each section of the pattern with wool.  During the activity we worked with Mrs Alden to complete a worksheet on growing patterns. We then had to create our own growing patterns using beads.

Gosh we are a lucky bunch!

Tuesday, October 19, 2010

We have been lucky enough to have another student teacher join our class.  Her name is Melanie Alden and she will be in 1C for the next three weeks.  Make sure you say hello and welcome her to our school community.

Thank you!

Friday, October 15, 2010

It is Miss Keong's last day with us today.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for all her work with our class.  She has done a wonderful job and I wish her all the best for her continuing studies.

Thank you from 1C!

Bridge testing

Yesterday we tested our bridges. We found it interesting to watch what designs worked really well.  We tested each design using unifix cubes and recorded how many each bridge held.  Bella's bridge held 122! Well done Bella!

In the afternoon we recorded problems we had encountered making the bridge, and what we thought the best feature was.

New Additions

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

Keep an eye out for some exciting new additions to our blog!

Literacy and Numeracy games have been added as well as links to educational Iphone / Ipad / Ipod touch apps.  Keep checking here for updates.

I am hoping that there will be more interaction - we are looking to connect with other classroom blogs. It would be great if everyone commented on students work - for example, asking questions that we can reply to.

Tuckshop on Fridays

Please be aware that if your child has tuckshop on Fridays, they will not get it until second break.  We eat our fruit and sandwich before we go to swimming (10:00am) as we don't get back until 12:00pm. The tuckshop has advised that they cannot guarantee your child's lunch will be ready early.  Please take this into consideration when planning your child's lunch - I know Friday is a popular day for tuckshop.

Just a spot of rain...

Monday, October 11, 2010

Hands up who is over the rain? After our very wet weekend this is what our playground looked like today.  We got to eat lunch inside and watch a movie on the Smartboard during break times.

Bridge building in Technology

Friday, October 8, 2010

We have started our Design and Technology unit.  This unit is based around the book "The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch". Students each have a design journal where they needed to plan the bridge they would build. We also discussed the types of materials that would be available. Yesterday was the first day of construction.  See some of their progress below.

Splatter Painting

Late last term we had a great time creating splatter paintings.  Check students individual blogs to see the different outcomes. These splatter paintings will be used for the upcoming arts showcase (15th/16th November). More details to follow about this.

Holiday Recounts

Thursday, October 7, 2010

Check students individual blogs for their holiday recounts.  Sounds like everyone had a great break!

Term 4

Welcome back!  I can just feel that this term is going to fly.

Just a friendly reminder that swimming permission slips need to be back by this Friday - whether students are swimming or not.  This allows them to travel on the bus to the pool. If you wanted to come and watch your child, you are more than welcome.  We get to the pool about 10:50am for an 11am lesson.

Payment and permission slips are also needed for our Alma Park Zoo excursion.

In term 4 we are learning about:
- Bridges (today we are making bridges out of newspaper, straws and masking tape)
- Australian animals and their needs

Please let me know if you have any planned holidays prior to the end of term. This is a really important term for our students, particularly the first half as we are still learning new things. Testing and final assessments will be in week 5/6.
