Well where did that term go? It has absolutely flown! Here's some of what we've been up to this week:

Maths:

We have been learning strategies to times large numbers by 10, 2 and 4. 

History: 

We have been identifying the events in the 1700s that led to the First Fleet. Today we completed a timeline of some of the events and discussed cause and effect. 

This afternoon we spent time creating Easter art. Students were given some ideas and they just ran with it. I love that they are all different! 

Lucky 4A - looks like the Easter bunny has been visiting our paper nests.

Book Club orders are due by tomorrow, 15th March.

There are lots of $2-$3 bargains available in the catalogue. The catalogue is available online in pdf format if you have misplaced the one that was sent home.

All students are asked to please bring in one egg per child to put towards the Easter raffles. This is a major fundraiser for the school and proceeds will be put towards air-conditioning rooms. Please send any donations to the library.

Week 7

Today in 4A:

We are learning about data collection and methods of recording. Today we surveyed the class on favourite flavours of pizza, then recorded using a picture graph. 

What's your favourite pizza?

In English we have begun our poetry unit and have been analyzing poems according to their structure and language devices. Today we focused on nonsense words and puns in poetry.

What is an example of a nonsense word? 

Give an example of a word that could be used as a pun (one word - two meanings)

In history students shared their research projects, then created explorer profiles on four significant European explorers. 

Who is Tasmania named after?

What did he call it when he discovered it? 

Who was the first person to circumnavigate the globe? 

Loved these starters as part of CSI (character, setting, incident) writing today!

 

 

Two of our groups completed Guided Reading today. During this time groups predict what they think will happen in the book, and justify why they think that (picture, blurb); read independently (whole book or chapter) forming own questions and words/ideas to clarify, then come back as a group and discuss further. We then retell what the text was about in our own words.
