Head Lice

Monday, February 14, 2011

Please make sure you check your child's hair tonight for head lice.

Remember!

Because live eggs hatch in 7-10 days, the key to success in getting rid of them is to repeat whatever treatment you settle on every three-four days for a couple of weeks. You can only break the cycle if you stop the newly hatched lice from laying eggs.

Did you know?
  • Getting head lice is not a sign of poor hygiene - in fact lice prefer clean hair
  • The female louse may lay as many as 300 eggs during her 3-4 life span
  • Cutting the hair shorter won't solve the problem as eggs are laid at the base of the hair shaft
  • An infestation of lice is called pediculosis

Ever wondered why they're so darn hard to get rid of? Here is a louse under a microscope - nasty claws!
