This term we are talking about different ways of staying safe. We have already talked about road safety and beach safety. Ask your child what they can remember about staying safe in these places - add these as a comment to this post. In the next few weeks, we will be completing a concept map with road safety, beach safety, pool safety and sun safety.
Today we discussed pool safety. First we talked about what we thought what was really important for staying safe around pools - 1C is so clever! We thought of lots of things!
We had a look at Lawrie Lawrence's website: Kids alive do the five!
We realised after looking at the 'Kids Alive' website that the only rule we hadn't thought of was 'Learn how to resuscitate'. We talked about what the word resuscitate means.
Here is a clip of the song to watch at home:
Beach Safety:
ReplyDelete1. "Stay with your Mum & Dad."
2. "Stay in the red & yellow flags."
3. "Don't go out too deep."
Road Safety:
1. "Always hold an adults hand."
2. "Always look, listen & think."
3. "Always go when the green light flashes."
4. "Don't walk across the road when the car" goes, you go when the green light goes on.
Mrs Thorburn, my mum thinks i might have the green light rules muddled, but has still quoted me, could you please let her know, thanks!
Pool safety:
1. "Always shut the gate, but at mornings you might get to have a swim."
2. "No jumping in, you might drown."
3. "Don't go into the pool without an adult."
4. "No running around the pool."
5. "A person has to put breathing in your lungs."
Q5. Was after i asked mum "what happens when you drown?" She explained that water goes into your lungs and fills them so you can't breathe in air!
This is a fantastic wrap up of what we have learnt. Maybe we need to revisit the green light - only go if the walk sign is on and the cars have stopped :)
ReplyDeleteI like how you explained CPR / resuscitate!
